According to a defense official, the Obama Admin has asked DOD to look forward to cuts in the 2010 budget of more than 10%. This is a reduction of around $55 billion not counting past supplemental funding that supported the DOD in past years.
-Last year’s defense budget was $512 billion. Service chiefs and planners will be spending the weekend “burning the midnight oil” looking at ways to cut the budget — looking especially at weapons programs, the defense official said.-

we are so screwed…get rid of waste yes, but an across the board cut?? that’s insane!
Depending on what is cut, this may not be a bad thing. If you’re killing the F-25, Zumwalt class, and FCS, eh, well and good. If you’re keeping those boondoggles alive and still cutting money… then you have a problem.
That still puts spending levels above 2007 spending.
An update:The cuts are a creation of the JCS, who put forward a roughly 18% increase, so that they could claim cuts when it got cut to an 8% increase.
